Together with Tierradentro, San Agustín constitutes the mecca of archeological tourism in Colombia for the significance bestowed upon it by the international community and for the antiquity of its cultures which date back to before 3000 BC which would suggest a 5000 years BC antiquity panorama. The Agustinian culture is emphasized there as the most important one within South America's pre-hispanic world.
